In two lines: In Bahrain the SAT is almost never an admission requirement — Bahrain-based universities generally admit on the secondary certificate plus an English test. You need the SAT if your list includes universities outside Bahrain that ask for it, or a Gulf campus that uses it for placement. Everything below is about deciding that first, and only then registering.

Where the calendar stands right now (checked 27 October 2026). Registration for the 7 November sitting has closed — the regular deadline was 23 October and late registration ended 27 October. The next sitting open for registration is 5 December 2026, and its registration deadline is 20 November 2026 (late registration 24 November; scores released 18 December). It is the last sitting whose scores arrive before an application deadline in early January; the next is 6 March 2027, with scores on 19 March. And from Bahrain there is a second deadline behind that one: seats here go before the registration window closes, so if you intend to sit in December, the question to settle this week is not whether you can register by 20 November but where you will sit — on the island, across the causeway, or in Doha. The seat runs out before the deadline does.

Which page do you actually need?

  • You are in Bahrain and want to know whether you need the test at all — you are on the right page.
  • You know you need it but not where your obstacle is — the self-check: three steps that locate the obstacle, its pattern, and how many weeks you actually have. A diagnostic, not a sales page — three of its nine outcomes end in “you do not need a route at all”, and its third step is the weeks question that matters most here.
  • You want the full structure of the digital test in Arabic — go to اختبار السات SAT.
  • You are applying from Saudi Arabia — go to SAT in Saudi Arabia, which also covers how the SAT differs from the Saudi aptitude and achievement tests.
  • You are in Qatar or Kuwait — SAT in Qatar · SAT in Kuwait.
  • You want dates only — the table below, or مواعيد اختبار SAT.
  • You want to understand your score report — درجات SAT.
  • You want to know which preparation route fits you — and whether you need one — the routing table. It sits near the end of this page on purpose. In Bahrain the route has to be chosen against a sitting you can actually get a seat for, and that is not known until you have checked both the requirement and the seat availability. Choosing a route first is how people buy weeks they do not have.

Quick answers

Question Short answer
Do Bahrain-based universities require it? Generally no — secondary certificate plus an English test
So who needs it? Students applying outside Bahrain, or to a Gulf campus that uses it
When is the next sitting I can register for? 5 December 2026 — register by 20 November; 7 November has closed
Is it still on paper? No — digital since 2024, 134 minutes, taken at a centre
Where is it held? At authorised schools; the live list is in your registration account
Centres full on my date? Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia and Doha are the usual fallbacks
How many dates a year? Five in 2026–27 — table below
When do scores arrive? A fixed release date per sitting — the fourth column below
What does it cost? Read the amount on the registration screen before you pay — see below
How do I find where my obstacle is? The self-check — after one full timed practice test
Which preparation route? Only answerable after a practice test and after you hold a seat — routing table
First step Check every university on your list. It is free and it often ends the question

The first question is not "when", it is "whether"

The most common wasted effort we see from Bahrain is a student preparing for months for a score that no university on their own list asks for. Admission in Bahrain generally rests on the secondary school certificate and an English-language test; institutions that use the SAT do so for applicants from outside their national route, or to place students into the right first maths course. The policy is set by each university and it changed repeatedly between 2020 and 2026.

So before anything else: open the current admissions page of every university on your list and look for the words "SAT" and "placement". This costs nothing and takes an afternoon, and for a large share of students in Bahrain it ends the question entirely. It is also the step that should happen before you chase a December seat — a seat secured for a test nobody on your list asks for is a day of travel spent on nothing.

Your plan Where the SAT usually sits
A university in Bahrain Usually not part of the file — confirm on the university's page
A US university Many selective ones reinstated testing from 2024–25; check each one individually
A Gulf campus of a foreign university Varies by programme — some require it, some are test-flexible, some use it only for maths placement
UK, Canada or Europe Usually not needed; curriculum results and your English test carry the weight
A scholarship route Read the scholarship's own criteria — they are not the same as the university's

We removed a line that previously named one university's exact placement cut-off here. The figure came from a single page whose link no longer resolves, and a wrong cut-off is worse than no cut-off: it makes a student relax or panic for no reason. Ask the university's admissions or testing office for the current number.

The Bahrain-specific part: your centre pool is bigger than the island

This is where Bahrain genuinely differs from Qatar or Kuwait, and it changes the planning rather than just the scenery.

Bahrain has a small number of authorised centres, so seats on the autumn dates go early. But a student in Bahrain also sits within same-day reach of centres in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia across the causeway, and Doha is a short flight. In practice your effective choice is not "this island on this date" but "this date somewhere I can reach and return from the same day".

Two consequences worth acting on:

  • Register as soon as a date opens, not at the deadline. The deadline tells you when registration closes, not when seats run out — and on a small island those are different days. As you read this, the live window is the 5 December sitting, and its registration closes on 20 November 2026 — so the local seats for it are going now, not in three weeks.
  • If your preferred date is full locally, check across the causeway and in Doha before giving up the date. Moving the sitting by two months can cost you an application round, as the score-release column below shows; moving the location usually costs a day. That trade is sharper this cycle than usual: with 7 November closed, December and March are three months apart, so giving up December means giving up the cycle rather than waiting four weeks.

If you do travel, treat it as a travel day with an exam at the end of it: border or airport time, a document you actually hold in the name you registered under, and arrival the night before if the start time is early. We are not publishing a centre list — the authorised list changes between sittings, and an out-of-date list is worse than none. The live list with seat availability appears in your registration account when you register.

2026–27 dates — and the column that actually decides things

The dates are the same worldwide. The fourth column is the one most pages leave out, and it is the one that determines whether a sitting is any use to you.

Test date Registration deadline Late registration Scores released
7 November 2026 — closed 23 October 2026 27 October 2026 20 November 2026
5 December 2026 — next open sitting 20 November 2026 24 November 2026 18 December 2026
6 March 2027 19 February 2027 23 February 2027 19 March 2027
1 May 2027 16 April 2027 20 April 2027 14 May 2027
5 June 2027 21 May 2027 25 May 2027 21 June 2027

Read it backwards from your application deadline, not forwards from today.

  • Applying in early January: the 5 December sitting is the last safe one — its scores land on 18 December. And with November closed it is now a single attempt, not the first of two.
  • Thinking of March to "have more time"? Those scores are released on 19 March 2027, after most application deadlines have closed. For a current final-year student, March is usually a retake date, not a first attempt.
  • The May and June sittings are for the following application cycle, or for a placement decision in the summer before enrolment.

The rule worth keeping rather than the rows: each registration deadline falls about two weeks before its test date, and scores arrive about two weeks after it. So from any application deadline, count back roughly four weeks to find the last sitting that still works, then another two to find the day you must already have registered — and in Bahrain, count back further still for the day the local seats go.

Two independent sources were read on 12 October 2026 and matched on every cell of this table; the December row was re-verified against the official calendar and a second independent source on 27 October 2026. One caution: these deadlines are set in US Eastern time, so a deadline can already have passed by the evening in Manama. Treat the day before as your real deadline, and confirm on the official registration site before you rely on any of it.

What it costs

There is a registration fee plus an international fee for test-takers outside the United States, and additional charges if you register late or change your date, centre or test. We are not publishing the amounts. They are set by the test organiser and change, and the earlier version of this page converted the dollar figure into Bahraini dinars — that conversion was our own arithmetic, not a published price, and we removed it for that reason. The registration screen shows the exact total before you pay; read it there. Fee waivers exist for some categories of student and are applied for through a school, not through us.

A realistic plan from Bahrain

  1. Confirm the test is actually required for the universities on your list. This step comes before everything — including before you hunt for a seat.
  2. Take one full official practice test under real timing. Your score on it, not your school marks, is the number that tells you how much work is left.
  3. Decide where the gap is. A student from an Arabic-medium national curriculum usually loses most of their points in vocabulary-in-context and in word problems rather than in mathematics itself — the maths content is often familiar and the English wrapping around it is not. The self-check takes you through this section by section.
  4. Work on the gap, not on the test in general. Eight to twelve weeks of targeted work on two or three weak question types beats three months of general practice. Note what that means today: there are about five weeks to the 5 December sitting, so if your gap needs eight, December is not your date and March is — and knowing that now is worth more than a rushed attempt.
  5. Book the sitting whose score-release date fits your deadline, as early in the window as seats allow.

When you do not need a course — or the test

  • You have not yet confirmed that any university on your list uses the test. Check first. It is the cheapest step available to you and it ends the matter for many students.
  • Your targets are in Bahrain, the UK, Canada or Europe.
  • Your targets are test-optional and your school results are strong.
  • You only need a maths placement threshold, not a competitive admission score — the work required is far smaller, and preparing for the larger target is the second most common waste of effort we see.
  • You are already scoring at or above your target on an official practice test. Two more timed practice tests are enough.
  • Your real obstacle is English generally rather than this test. Start with تأسيس إنجليزي أم تحضير اختبار؟.

If you do need preparation: which route fits you

Do this before you read the table: sit one full official practice test, timed, in one sitting. Without a section-by-section result every row below is a guess. The most common waste of money we see in this subject is a full course bought by someone whose obstacle was one section.

And if you would rather work through that step by step before looking at the table: the self-check — where your obstacle actually is, and which route fits it. It identifies the section, then the pattern inside it, then how many weeks you genuinely have — which is the step that matters most from Bahrain, because it is the one the seat decides rather than you. Three of its nine outcomes end in “you do not need a route at all”.

Where you are after the practice test What you actually need Route
You have not sat the test or a practice test, and do not know where your obstacle is An initial assessment that locates it — and tells you whether you need review at all Initial assessment and focused review
You have sat it before and know your weakness is in one section Focused review, not full coverage Short focused programme
Both sections are costing you points Wider coverage of both Extended programme
Maths is fine and the points are lost in Reading and Writing — the usual pattern from an Arabic-medium national curriculum A route built for that section specifically Reading and Writing route
The obstacle is maths, and underneath it algebra and geometry Maths foundations first, before any test-technique work Foundation maths
Maths is already strong and you are targeting the top band in it specifically Top-band question practice Advanced maths · not for raising a total score
You want full coverage from the beginning through to sitting the test Complete coverage Full SAT course

The Bahrain warning is about time, not about content — and it follows from the seat problem above. Everywhere else you pick a route and then book a sitting. In Bahrain the order is often reversed: seats on the autumn dates go early, and the seat you can actually get — here, across the causeway, or in Doha — is what fixes your calendar. So choose the row against the number of weeks you really have before the seat you hold, not the number you would like. A foundation-maths route cannot finish in three weeks, and buying one that cannot finish is worse than two honest outcomes: either sit the later date whose score still clears your deadline — the score-release column above tells you which that is — or take the focused row now and keep the wider work for after the first sitting.
And this cycle the warning has teeth. With 7 November closed, there are about five weeks to the 5 December sitting and the registration cut-off is 20 November. Five weeks is enough to sharpen pacing and not enough to close a content gap — and the fallback is no longer four weeks away but three months. So if the practice test says your obstacle is content rather than timing, March is the honest answer, and a compressed course bought for December is exactly the purchase this page exists to talk you out of.
And one content caution, as everywhere: if your maths is already strong and the points are going in Reading and Writing, more maths work strengthens your strong side and leaves the obstacle in place. The advanced maths row is for someone targeting the top maths band specifically, not for someone trying to raise a total score.

What this table deliberately does not contain. No prices — pricing is set by management and is read on the route’s own page. No “best route”, because the best route here is a function of where your obstacle sits and of how many weeks stand between you and a seat, not a property of a product — the route that suits your classmate may be the worst choice for you. And no promise of a score: we begin with a free diagnostic and a written plan, and after it we will tell you plainly whether the gap is closeable before the sitting you hold. We are a study-preparation platform; we are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the organisation that administers the test, and we do not guarantee admission or any score.

FAQ

When is the next SAT sitting I can still register for from Bahrain?

5 December 2026, with a registration deadline of 20 November 2026, late registration to 24 November, and scores released on 18 December. Registration for the 7 November sitting closed on 23 October. The sitting after December is 6 March 2027, with scores on 19 March — so December is the last one that clears an early-January deadline. From Bahrain, note that local seats usually go before the registration deadline, so settle where you will sit rather than when you will register.

Do universities in Bahrain require the SAT?

Generally no. Admission normally rests on the secondary school certificate plus an English-language test, and institutional tests where they apply. Because each university sets its own rule and these changed repeatedly between 2020 and 2026, confirm on the university's current admissions page rather than on any summary — including this one.

Where is the SAT held in Bahrain?

At authorised schools. We are deliberately not listing them: the authorised list changes between sittings, and the live list with seat availability is shown in your registration account when you register.

What if the Bahrain centres are full on my date?

Check centres in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia across the causeway, or in Doha — the test date is the same worldwide. Changing location usually costs a day; changing date can cost an application round. That trade is sharper right now, because with November closed the next date after December is three months away rather than four weeks.

How much is the SAT from Bahrain?

A registration fee plus an international fee, with extra charges for late registration or changes. We do not publish the amounts because they are set by the test organiser and change; the exact total appears on the registration screen before payment.

When will I get my scores?

Each sitting has a fixed release date — see the fourth column of the table above. Plan backwards from your application deadline rather than assuming a number of weeks.

How long is an SAT score valid?

We removed a "valid for five years" line that was previously here: we found it in only one source and could not confirm it. In practice the limit that matters is the one the university states for the scores it will accept, so ask the university rather than relying on a general figure.

Is the SAT still a paper test?

No. It has been digital since 2024, taken at a centre on a laptop with the official testing app, and runs 134 minutes across two sections and four modules.

Should a Bahraini national-curriculum student take it for maths placement?

Possibly, and if so the maths section is the one that matters. But confirm with the university that it uses the test for placement and ask what it does with the score, because preparing for a competitive admission score when you only need a placement threshold is wasted months.

How do I find out where my obstacle is before choosing anything?

Sit one full official practice test, timed, recording each section separately — then work through the self-check. Its third step is the weeks question, which from Bahrain is set by the seat you can get rather than by your plan. Three of its nine outcomes conclude that you do not need a route at all.

Which SAT preparation route should I choose from Bahrain?

Choose it against the sitting you can actually get a seat for. Seats on the autumn dates go early here, so the weeks available to you are set by the seat, not by your plan — and a foundation route that cannot finish before your sitting is the wrong purchase. Either sit the later date whose score release still clears your deadline, or take the focused route now and keep the wider work for after the first attempt. The routing table maps each situation to a route.

Elmadrasah.com team — reviewed 12 October 2026. Dates, deadlines and score-release dates verified against two independent sources that matched on every cell. We removed from the earlier version: all fee amounts and the dinar conversion; a named university's placement cut-off taken from a single source whose link no longer resolves; a claim about which towns host centres; a "scores valid for five years" claim from a single source; and local course price ranges. Reviewed 16 October 2026 — a seven-row routing table added after the "when you do not need a course" section, with a Bahrain-specific warning that the route must be chosen against the sitting you can actually get a seat for. Reviewed 20 October 2026 — the self-check diagnostic linked from the top box, the quick-answer table, the preparation plan, the routing section and the FAQ. Reviewed 27 October 2026 — the calendar notice rewritten: the 7 November sitting is closed and 5 December is the next open one, its 20 November deadline carried into the opening box, the quick-answer table, the dates table, the seat section, the preparation plan, the routing warning and the FAQ; the December row re-verified against the official calendar and a second independent source; a standing count-back rule added so the page stays usable between reviews; and the Bahrain seat rule sharpened — with November gone the fallback behind December is three months away, not four weeks, so giving up a December seat now means giving up the cycle.
